Clemens Hogenstijn received the De la Court Prize 2005 for his book about the Patriots in Deventer.
According to the jury, Hogenstijn's dissertation Het Algemeen Welzijn van het Volk. Een politiek- en rechtshistorische studie van Deventer in de Patriottentijd (Nijmegen, 2004) is both profound and broad in scope. The book is an interdisciplinary work covering both the law and history, and offers a subtle and detailed picture of the sharp conflicts between the Patriots and the Orangists in Deventer during the tumultuous 1780s. Hogenstijn places his study within the context of Enlightenment concepts of social and government reform.
