Fungal Biodiversity Centre (CBS)

The Fungal Biodiversity Centre (CBS) manages a world-famous collection of living fungi, yeasts and bacteria. It is a centre of expertise for mycology and for research into moulds and fungi.

The Centre investigates the taxonomy and evolutionary biology of select groups of fungi. It also makes use of molecular and genomic methods to study the biology and ecology of fungi. It provides useful answers to questions relevant to the general public, medicine, industry and specific target groups.

What international experts have to say about the Fungal Biodiversity Centre

In 2014, an international committee of experts judged the Fungal Biodiversity Centre (CBS) to be ‘excellent’. Both the research and the collection are of superb quality. In particular, the Centre has made spectacular advances in research over the past ten years. The committee expressed its support for the Centre’s plans and made a number of recommendations for how it can sustain its current level of excellence. The committee mentioned the Centre’s ‘vitality and feasibility’ as a point of concern, by which it meant the continually rising cost of major investments and the choices associated with such costs.
