Cooperation with international organisations

Science can help us tackle the international challenges of our time. The Academy wants to extend science’s influence on domestic and international policy by connecting scientific expertise to modern-day issues.

It does this in Europe through the European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism or SAM. SAPEA (Scientific Advice to Policy by European Academies) brings the interdisciplinary expertise of the five leading alliances of European academies together in a single initiative.

Academy members are actively connecting scientists in various European alliances, but they are also dedicated to the cause of science worldwide.

As a member of the IAP and ICSU, the Academy is allied with projects that help build academies and scientific networks in emerging countries in Africa.

It also has long-standing partnerships with China and Indonesia.

Thanks to these efforts, the Academy is the Netherlands’ science ambassador to Europe and the rest of the world.
