Aernout Mik (born in 1962) is one of the most successful Dutch artists of the moment and has featured in an impressive series of international exhibitions. Mik makes the dilemmas inherent in contemporary social issues tangible in his work. In his videos, the events into which the characters are drawn appear to be without cause, but they also rouse conflicting emotions. Those feelings are intensified by his ability to create a multi-layered reality that combines video with other art forms such as performance, sculpture, photography and architecture.
His work has been purchased by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. In 2002, he received the Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Art.
