Mieke Zaanen appointed Director General of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences

The Academy Board has appointed Mieke Zaanen as Director General of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, effective 1 February 2015. She will succeed Hans Chang in this position. Ms Zaanen and Theo Mulder, Research Director, will together constitute the Academy’s Board of Management. Ms Zaanen is currently the Secretary General of the University of Amsterdam. 

Mieke Zaanen About Mieke Zaanen

Mieke Zaanen studied law at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), where she has also spent the bulk of her career. She has served successively as Director of Operational Management at the UvA’s Faculty of Science, Mathematics and Information Science, as the university’s Management Coordinator, and since 2007 as its Secretary General. Ms Zaanen sits on the boards of numerous organisations, including the DIA (the Dutch expertise centre on Germany), SPUI25 academic cultural centre, the Amsterdam Academic Club, and the Documentary Theatre Foundation.

Hans Chang

Hans Chang will remain with the Academy until 1 July 2015 in order to round off various major projects and assist in shaping the Academy’s input into national policymaking.
