Theo Mulder appointed interim rector of NIAS

Theo Mulder will begin his one-year tenure as rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS) on 1 January 2017.  He succeeds Paul Emmelkamp, who has headed the institute for the past three years.

The Academy Board is grateful to Paul Emmelkamp for guiding NIAS through a period of transition in which it was reorganised and moved from Wassenaar to Amsterdam.

About Theo Mulder

Theo Mulder was the director of the Royal Academy Institutes from October 2006 to October 2016. As NIAS rector, he will now work to cement the relationship between NIAS and the other Academy institutes. He will also focus on reinforcing NIAS’s position as an independent Institute for Advanced Study in the Amsterdam-based, Dutch, and international research infrastructure.
