This book holds a collection of articles written for the symposium about bioethics held in Amsterdam in 2001, a symposium triggered by President Chirac, who showed a special personal interest in bioethical problems. It concentrates on the various aspects of pre-symtomatic genetic screening as well as the ethical and legal aspect of scientific developments in the field of genomics, including the consequences of knowledge about individual genes.
