Aim of programme

JSTP aims to encourage sustainable research collaboration by funding joint research projects and dialogue seminars.

Structure of programme

The programme is carried out within the framework of the Memoranda of Understanding between the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and four Chinese counterpart organisations: the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Who can apply?

Research teams of Dutch and Chinese researchers, with a senior Principal Investigator on both the Chinese and the Dutch side.

What can you apply for?

JSTP offers two types of funding:

  • Dialogue Seminars 
    Financial support for joint seminars, with 10 to 15 participating scientists from each side. Participation of multiple research groups with relevant expertise from both the Netherlands and China is required. The maximum financial contribution available for an individual seminar is € 30,000. The dialogue seminars are open for applicants from all fields of science.
  • Joint Research Projects 
    Financial support for joint research projects by Chinese and Dutch research teams demonstrating complementary expertise with a duration of three to four years. The maximum budget available on the Dutch side for an individual project is € 280,000, covering funding for one PhD or postdoc position (fixed rates), and a maximum of € 60,000 for research costs (including travel and equipment).
