Cooperation with international organisations

The Academy is a member of various international networks of academies, for example the InterAcademy Council (IAC), the InterAcademy Panel (IAP), the All European Academies (ALLEA), and the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC).

The Academy is a staunch advocate of such networks. Academies of arts and sciences obviously make a bigger impact on international trends and policies when they join forces. Unfortunately, divided interests have weakened these networks in recent years and eroded their influence.

Joining forces

The Academy believes it is crucial for networks of academies to collaborate closely so as to arrive at a uniform policy on European and international issues. Only in this way can they exercise an influence as international organisations acting on the world stage. By collaborating, they will have a greater impact and be able to achieve much more, both individually and as a group.

The Academy participates in policy discussions within these alliances, concentrating on subjects that will benefit the Netherlands. Its aim in the InterAcademy Council (IAC) is to secure a leading position for the Netherlands within a broad programme of water-related research.
