Academy Job Shadow Days

Let’s get to know each other!

The Academy has almost 1400 employees.

To help us all get to know each other and the work we all do, we organised the Academy Job Shadow Days. Between 25 September and 6 October 2017, Academy employees spend a morning or afternoon at another Academy institute or the Academy Bureau with another employee – to sample the atmosphere, observe what your colleague does, or simply to satisfy their curiosity about the institute’s inner workings. Read the adventures of the Academy employees ‘shadows’ on our website.

Sneak preview

The Academy Job Shadow Days start today. Around forty Academy staff will be shadowing a colleague at another institute. We asked some of the pairs to tell us what they expected.

Eva van Oene is a project officer at the International Institute of Social History (IISH), where she is digitalising the archives of the General Diamond Workers Union of the Netherlands.

‘I only know how we do things here, so I was eager to visit another collection. I’m happy that I can shadow someone at NIOD. Of course, I’m hoping they’ll let me take a look inside their famous safe. I’m not exactly sure what Marjo does at NIOD, so I’m going to Google her before I go.’

‘I’m not really sure what to expect yet, because we've only picked a date. But Trix said she’ll let me tag along to the University Museum in Utrecht, where the Westerdijk Institute has set up a splendid exhibition on fungi. I’m really looking forward to that.’

Lauren Romijn is an archivist in the Collection Processing and Access department of the International Institute for Social History (IISH).
