Visits from Westerdijk Institute

The Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute is a research institute that maintains a world-renowned microbial biological resource centre of living fungi, yeasts and bacteria. It is a centre of expertise on mycology and conducts research on the evolution, taxonomy and biodiversity of fungi and yeasts. The institute generates and shares scientific knowledge and answers questions relevant to society together with other research institutes, partners in civil society and industry.

Trix Merkx is a laboratory assistant at the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute.

‘It will be fun to enter an entirely different world. Not a lab, but another institute. I have no preconceptions. My curiosity has been roused, and I’m certainly interested in learning about the IISH’s field of work.’
‘I’m not really sure what to expect yet, because we've only picked a date. But Trix said she’ll let me tag along to the University Museum in Utrecht, where the Westerdijk Institute has set up a splendid exhibition on fungi. I’m really looking forward to that.’

Lauren Romijn is an archivist in the Collection Processing and Access department of the International Institute for Social History (IISH).
