Beijerinck Premium

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) annually awards the Beijerinck Premium to a talented early career researcher who does excellent virus-related research and in doing so is an example for other young virologists.

The Beijerinck Premium, established in 2002, consists of a monetary award of 25.000 euros, to be spent for virus-related research as well as for working visits and conferences abroad.



Who is it for?

Researchers working at a Dutch university or research institute, who have received their PhD between three and eight years ago.

Nomination and award

The following persons may nominate candidates for the Premium:

  • members of the Academy and The Young Academy
  • deans of faculties at universities in the Netherlands
  • professors at universities in the Netherlands
  • directors of research institutes in the Netherlands
