Beijerinck Premium

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) annually awards the Beijerinck Premium to a talented early career researcher who does excellent virus-related research and in doing so is an example for other young virologists.

The Beijerinck Premium, established in 2002, consists of a monetary award of 25.000 euros, to be spent for virus-related research as well as for working visits and conferences abroad.



Who is it for?

Researchers working at a Dutch university or research institute, who have received their PhD between three and eight years ago (counting from the date of the award ceremony in 2021).

Nomination and award

Researchers for the Beijerinck Premium can be nominated by:

  •     Members of the KNAW and members of The Young Academy
  •     Deans of faculties at universities in the Netherlands
  •     Professors at universities in the Netherlands
  •     Directors of research institutes in the Netherlands
