Heineken Prize for Art

The Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Art encourages the visual arts in the Netherlands. Alfred Heineken established the prize to recognise and support outstanding Dutch artists.

The Dr. A.H. Heineken Prize for Art was established in 1988 and is awarded biennially.

The Prize consists of 50.000 euros and a publication or exhibit to the value of 50.000 euros and is funded by the Dr. A.H. Heineken Foundation for Art.

A visual artist.

Who can nominate?

  • members of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, members of the Society of Arts, and members of The Young Academy
  • museum directors
  • general directors of institutes of higher professional art education and post-graduate training
  • the directors of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, De Ateliers and the Jan Van Eyck Academy
  • the board of the Netherlands Gallery Association
  • directors of exhibition centres for the fine arts

Nomination and award

The deadline for nominating candidates has passed.

The awards ceremony will be held late 2022.

The next call for nominations for this Prize will open in 2023.
