Guillén Fernández is a specialist on the brain, memory and emotions. His interdisciplinary research combines cognitive neuroimaging, genetics, pharmacology and a range of clinical disciplines. For example, he showed how acute stress can sear an emotional experience into our memory. This process may form the basis for stress-related syndromes such as anxiety disorders and depression. His study of the basis of memory formation and its stabilisation/storage in the brain is also important for education.
