The Dutch Annual Virology Symposium (DAVS) offers young and established virologists a platform to present their research. The symposium will include the Beijerinck Lecture by Professor Jesse Bloom, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the presentation of the 2022 Academy Beijerinck Premium.

Professor Jesse D. Bloom of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle will deliver the Beijerinck Lecture 2022: Interpreting the evolution of SARS-CoV-2. Bloom, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, is one of the foremost researchers in the field of computational biology and virus evolution, especially that of influenza and coronaviruses.

Dr Tessa Quax, associate professor Groningen Biomolecular Sciences and Biotechnology Institute at the University of Groningen, will receive the 2022 Academy Beijerinck Premium for her unique research on archaeal viruses.

The symposium will be held under the auspices of the Royal Dutch Society for Microbiology (KNVM) and is supported by the M.W. Beijerinck-Virology Fund of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
