An interdisciplinary conference about fictional, impersonated, absent, haunting, and 'real’ musicians.
During this conference, the organizers aim to start an interdisciplinary discussion about the ways in which our understanding of musicians taps into the imaginary.
Our interest will not be to debunk myths, but to understand the dimensions of 'the real', 'the fictive', and 'the imaginary' in musical cultures, and the role imaginary representations of musicians play in our personal lives, in society and the arts in general.
Keynotes
The conference will include keynotes by:
- Nicholas Cook (University of Cambridge)
- Lydia Goehr (Columbia University)
- Nick Prior (University of Edinburgh)
