Statistics Netherlands
In a society in which the volume of information is growing explosively, it’s crucial to have free access to comprehensive, reliable data. As the Netherlands’s primary statistical agency, Statistics Netherlands (“the CBS”) provides reliable statistical information and data so as to clarify issues affecting the country. By doing so, it supports public debate, policy development and decision-making, thus contributing to prosperity, well-being, and democracy.
The CBS was set up in 1899 to meet the need for independent, reliable information to understand societal issues. It still plays that role and has grown to become an innovative knowledge organisation that continuously applies new technologies and developments so as to guarantee the quality of the data and its own independent position.
