Legal expert Ivo Giesen joins Academy Board

12 March 2021

Ivo Giesen, Professor of Private Law and Head of the Utrecht University School of Law, has been elected to the Academy Board. He will succeed Marc Groenhuijsen on 1 September, when the latter’s term expires. Since joining the Academy in 2010, Giesen has been involved in various Academy activities.

In his research, Giesen examines liability and procedural law for solutions to societal problems, drawing extensively from knowledge in other disciplines, including economics, psychology and sociology. The Academy is pleased to welcome another broadly oriented academic to its Board. Giesen intends to promote important Academy themes, such as the position of young researchers and the pursuit of pure science, and wishes to play a role in the debate about recognition and rewards for researchers.

From 1 September, the Academy Board will consist of Ineke Sluiter (President), Marileen Dogterom (Vice President and Foreign Representative), Ivo Giesen (Vice President and General Secretary), Martin van Hees (Chair of the Humanities Domain), Sjaak Neefjes (Chair of the Medical, Biomedical and Health Sciences Domain), Ton van der Steen (Chair of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Domain), and Linda Steg (Chair of the Behavioural Sciences, Social Sciences and Law Domain).
