The Evaluation Committee African Studies Centre (ASC), installed by the Board of the Academy, assessed the ASC research activities and the Library, Documentation and Information (LDI) activities between 1997 and 2003. The evaluation committee considers the quality, the productivity and the other aspects of the research to be very good, and the relevance, vitality and feasibility of the research to be good. It considers the research facilities to be excellent. The evaluation committee finally presents conclusions and recommendations with respect to ASC strategic issues, such as its mission statement, funding, human resources, research facilities, future research programme, linking the LDI and ASC research, and management.
