The Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience conducts fundamental research into how the brain functions. This knowledge will ultimately lead to new treatments for brain disorders.
The institute's long-term research projects deliver top researchers and provide fundamental and applicable knowledge on how brain circuits enable cognition. The Brain Bank, the Primate Unit and the Sleep Registry are national and international facilities for conducting research on human brain tissue, cognitive functions and sleep patterns. The institute contributes to bridging the gap between cellular and behavioural levels.
The institute has developed into a globally competitive centre for research aimed at understanding brain circuits. By focusing on the fundamental functioning of central circuits in the healthy brain, we are able to make the leap to the diseased brain, including in relation to psychiatric disorders, and develop neurotechnological interventions for future therapies.
