De KNAW fungeert als forum voor het wetenschappelijk debat en voor de uitwisseling van wetenschappelijke informatie. In dit kader organiseert de Akademie uiteenlopende bijeenkomsten, waarvan er vele vrij toegankelijk zijn voor publiek.

Bijeenkomsten

De Akademie brengt advies uit op tal van onderwerpen die de wetenschap betreffen. Faces of Science communiceren over hun wetenschappelijk onderzoek en hun leven als promovendi aan de hand van blogs, vlogs, artikelen, lezingen, optredens in de media en activiteiten op sociale media. Hiermee willen ze jongeren inspireren en hun enthousiasme voor wetenschap aanwakkeren, ongeacht hun achtergrond of opleidingsniveau. De promovendi vormen samen het Faces of Science-netwerk en krijgen handvatten en trainingen aangeboden om hun vaardigheden met wetenschapscommunicatie verder te ontwikkelen.

KNAW Early Career Award

The Dr. Hendrik Muller Prize is awarded every other year to a mid-career researcher working in the Netherlands who has made an outstanding contribution to the humanities or social sciences. The prize consists of a monetary award of EUR 25,000, intended to help finance a research project at the prizewinner’s discretion.

Twaalf jonge onderzoekers uit verschillende domeinen van de wetenschap krijgen elk een KNAW Early Career Award. De prijs, jaarlijks toegekend, beloont hun uitzonderlijke prestaties met een bedrag van 15.000 euro en een uniek kunstwerk. De KNAW Early Career Award wordt dit jaar voor de zesde keer uitgereikt.

Twaalf jonge onderzoekers uit alle domeinen van de wetenschap krijgen een KNAW Early Career Award.

Het Trippenhuis aan de Kloveniersburgwal is gebouwd in opdracht van de gebroeders Louys (1605-1684) en Hendrick Trip (1607-1666). Sinds haar oprichting is de Akademie verbonden geweest met dit bijzondere gebouw.

In recent years, under the influence of movements such as Black Lives Matter, social awareness and the growth of historical knowledge, our views have changed radically. On occasions past heroes of have been pulled from their pedestals, but removing statues does not erase history. An Academy committee is going to advise on how we should deal with controversial heritage and how we can best conduct the related debate.

The IPCC report published in August 2021 entitled <a href="https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assessment-report-working-group-i/" target="_blank">The Physical Science Basis</a> again demonstrates two issues: the urgency of the climate issue, on the one hand, and the indispensable role of science in establishing and weighing the facts and searching for possible solutions, on the other. The Academy feels a joint responsibility for and urgency about this matter and wishes to contribute in different ways and on different levels: as a learned society and guardian and interpreter of science, as an institute organisation and in its own day-to-day management.

With its historic architecture, the Trippenhuis is an exceptional venue for your event.The Trippenhuis was built between 1660 and 1662 as a residence for the brothers Louys and Hendrick Trip, dealers in copper, iron, and armaments. It has been the seat of the Academy since the early nineteenth century and for a time it also housed the Rijksmuseum, home of Rembrandt’s Night Watch and other famous works of art. When the Rijksmuseum moved to its new home, the Academy remained and gradually expanded into the adjacent canal-side mansions.

Het Meertens Instituut-KNAW richt zich op de wetenschappelijke bestudering en documentatie van de Nederlandse taal en cultuur.

Het Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde (KITLV) (1851) verricht onderzoek naar Zuidoost-Azië en de Caraïben vanuit een interdisciplinair en comparatief perspectief. Het onderzoek richt zich voornamelijk op de (dis)continuïteiten tussen de koloniale periode, de contemporaire geschiedenis en hedendaagse ontwikkelingen. Ook de doorwerking van het koloniale verleden in postkoloniaal Nederland behoort tot het programma.

Huygens Instituut

Het onderzoek binnen het Hubrecht Instituut voor Ontwikkelingsbiologie en Stamcelonderzoek -KNAW richt zich op de ontwikkelings- en stamcelbiologie. Het instituut heeft 24 onderzoeksgroepen die fundamenteel, multidisciplinair onderzoek verrichten op gezonde en zieke cellen, weefsels en organismen. Het Hubrecht Instituut werkt samen met talrijke laboratoria op lokaal, nationaal en internationaal niveau. Het instituut heeft een speciaal partnerschap met het UMC Utrecht, Universiteit Utrecht, Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie, het European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) en Oncode Institute.

Het Hubrecht Instituut – KNAW doet wereldwijd toonaangevend onderzoek op het gebied van ontwikkelingsbiologie en stamcellen. De onderzoeksgroepen doen fundamenteel, multidisciplinair onderzoek op gezonde en zieke cellen, weefsels en organismen.
