Today, June 15, is 'Be Open About Animal Research Day 2023'. The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) is pleased to announce its first participation in the annual 'Be Open About Animal Research Day'. Today, the KNAW is participating in this global 24-hour social media campaign organized by the European Animal Research Association (EARA). The campaign is designed to promote transparency and communication between biomedical and scientific organizations, and the public about die trials. The KNAW is a signatory to the Animal Experiments Transparency Agreement and, together with the institutes, welcomes this opportunity to communicate transparently about laboratory animal research.
The KNAW is a strong supporter of scientific transparency and therefore considers it important to be part of this initiative, which encourages institutions worldwide to communicate transparently about their activities in the field of laboratory animal research. The KNAW is also a signatory to the Animal Experiments Transparency Agreement. As a guardian and interpreter of science, the KNAW recognizes the importance of addressing concerns, dispelling misconceptions and sharing accurate information about animal research.
Within the KNAW there are three institutes that conduct research involving the use of animals, namely: the Hubrecht Institute, the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience and the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). Together with the institutes, we are taking the opportunity today to communicate more openly about animal testing.
