De KNAW fungeert als forum voor het wetenschappelijk debat en voor de uitwisseling van wetenschappelijke informatie. In dit kader organiseert de Akademie uiteenlopende bijeenkomsten, waarvan er vele vrij toegankelijk zijn voor publiek.

Bijeenkomsten

De Akademie brengt advies uit op tal van onderwerpen die de wetenschap betreffen. De invalshoeken voor die adviesonderwerpen zijn op hoofdlijnen geschetst in <a href="publicaties/staan-op-kennis-strategische-agenda-2021-2025" title="Staan op kennis">Staan op kennis</a>, de strategische agenda van de KNAW voor 2021-2025. Bekijk ook <a href="https://storage.knaw.nl/2024-03/Adviesfunctie-KNAW-Werkprogramma-per-maart-2024.pdf">het werkprogramma</a>.Voor de uitvoering van haar adviestaak heeft de KNAW <a href="/adviesraden-en-commissies">adviesraden en adviescommissies</a> ingesteld. Zij dragen adviesonderwerpen aan en spelen een rol bij de peer review – toetsing door vakgenoten – van de adviezen.

Faces of Science communiceren over hun wetenschappelijk onderzoek en hun leven als promovendi aan de hand van blogs, vlogs, artikelen, lezingen, optredens in de media en activiteiten op sociale media. Hiermee willen ze jongeren inspireren en hun enthousiasme voor wetenschap aanwakkeren, ongeacht hun achtergrond of opleidingsniveau. De promovendi vormen samen het Faces of Science-netwerk en krijgen handvatten en trainingen aangeboden om hun vaardigheden met wetenschapscommunicatie verder te ontwikkelen.

De KNAW Onderwijsprijs is dé prijs voor buitengewone vwo-profielwerkstukken. De KNAW wil met deze prijs uitstekende prestaties in het voortgezet onderwijs in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden stimuleren en belonen.

The Dr. Hendrik Muller Prize is awarded every other year to a mid-career researcher working in the Netherlands who has made an outstanding contribution to the humanities or social sciences. The prize consists of a monetary award of EUR 25,000, intended to help finance a research project at the prizewinner’s discretion.

Twaalf jonge onderzoekers uit verschillende domeinen van de wetenschap krijgen elk een KNAW Early Career Award. De prijs, jaarlijks toegekend, beloont hun uitzonderlijke prestaties met een bedrag van 15.000 euro en een uniek kunstwerk. De KNAW Early Career Award wordt dit jaar voor de zesde keer uitgereikt.

Twaalf jonge onderzoekers uit alle domeinen van de wetenschap krijgen een KNAW Early Career Award.

The Bob Pinedo Cancer Care Award is a biennial award intended for a researcher (or team of researchers) whose contribution to (translational) cancer research and compassionate cancer patient care is regarded as outstanding. The laureate receives 100,000 euros (to be used for research) and a bronze sculpture.

The Academy Education Prize is awarded annually for twelve high-quality secondary-school research papers. There are first, second, and third prizes for each of the four subject clusters. The pupils who wrote the papers receive a scholarship of 2,000, 1,500, or 1,000 euros respectively and a certificate. The Academy rewards not only the pupils, but also the supervising teacher and the schools that made it possible for the pupils to achieve such top-class performance.The Academy Education Prize is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year.

In the context of the Academy Education Prize, the twelve best school research projects (pre-university level) are selected each year and the pupils who wrote them are awarded a scholarship of 2,000, 1,500 or 1,000 euros.

The institutes are evaluated regularly by independent evaluation committees. The evaluations are made based on the Standard Evaluation Protocol and the accompanying Academy manual for evaluations of Academy institutes.
