Who may apply

Scientific researchers

• who conduct basic research in the medical/biomedical sciences or related disciplines;
• who obtained their PhD no more than four (4) years before submitting their application (this term is subject to the Academy's extension arrangement) or are in the final phase of their PhD programme and can start the intended research within three (3) months of being awarded the contribution;
• who will independently set up an innovative research line with the proposed project;
• who will conduct research at a university or research institute in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.  

About the De Boer-van Staveren Fund

The De Boer-van Staveren Fund was established by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts & Sciences (KNAW) in 2023 and forms part of the Academy’s Medical Sciences Fund. Its assets consist of the estate of Dr Wilhelmus P.H. de Boer (Haarlem 1950 – Rijswijk 2021). Dr De Boer’s wish was for the KNAW to set up a fund with his estate for medical research, preferably in the field of autoimmune diseases, and to financially support promising, young researchers and new research concepts.
